Alternative Dispute Resolution

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is considered any way to resolve a dispute without going into litigation, i.e. court. ADR can also refer to allowing a dispute to drop, or an alternative to violence. Alternative dispute resolution was developed to relieve lengthy court dockets and rising litigations costs.

Alterative Dispute Resolution includes:

  • Mediation
  • Arbitration
  • Neutral Evaluation
  • Conciliation
  • Negotiation
  • Ombudsman
  • Online dispute resolution
  • Conflict dispute research

As alternative dispute resolution becomes more widely accepted, some states and courts now require ADR measures before a case goes to court. In some states, these measures may be voluntary or mandatory. In some cases, ADR may occur online or through the use of technology, but guidelines must be followed.

If your case requires, or can be resolved by, using alternative dispute resolution, a skilled litigation attorney can advise you of your options in seeking not only the best method, but also help protect your rights. Your lawyer knows the options available to you, should you seek an alternative before going to court.
